内容記述 | An appnroach was attempted to the initiation stage of development from the continuation stage on the basis of the electrode theory of the photographic development. By taking into consideration (1) the potential of a very small silver speck shifts discontinuously in a positiveor negative direction by the addition or substraction of an atom to or from the speck and (2) its potential is separated into two discrete levels ; the lowest unoccupied and the highest occupied level,the nate of growth and decay of the speck in the developer were calculated. It was shown that the discriminatio between exposed and unexposed silver halide grains during development is due to the difference in the reduction rate. The effects of the developer additives (benzotnazoles and phenosafranine) on the density-development time curve could be explained and predicted successfully from the cathodic current-potential curves of the silver halide in the developer containing the additives and the anodic curves of the developer. It was found that the anodic currents of Metol-ascorbic acid, Phenidone-ascordic acid and Phenidone-hydroquinone-sulfite developer were super-additive or the silver electrode coated with gelatin and hence the super-additivity of development could be explained on the basis of the current-potential curves. It was concluded from these results that the electrode theory was an effective approximation of the mechanism of development even at the initiation stage as well as at the continuation stage. | |||||
