          <dc:description>The Doppler-limited absorption spectrum of the vib-rotational lines in the A^3II_1←X^1Σ^+system of ICl and IBr were measured in the region from 11200 to 13300 cm^&lt;-1&gt; using a Ti : sapphire ring laser. The P, Q and R-branch lines of J=10 to 100 belonging to the v'←V"=(0～7)←(2～7) of ICl and (3～20)←(1～6) of IBr progressions were assigned. The hyperfine splittings caused by the nuclear spin coupling effects of I atom were observed. A formula to describe the nuclear hyperfine splittings for the high J rotational transitions in the A-X system was derived using the first order perturbation theory. The quadrupole coupling constants eQq'_1 and eQq'_2 in the A state of ICl and IBr were estimated from the observed line splittings of the P- and R- branches. The spectroscopic constants T'_v, B'_&lt;ve/f&gt;, D'_v and H'_v of the vibrational levels in the A state were calculated from the observed transition wavenumbers by a least squares fitting procedure. The Dunham coefficients for the X states of ICl and IBr were also determined. The calculated line positions of the P, Q and R-branches agreed with those observed within the accuracies of the wave-number measurements of 0.005 cm^&lt;-1&gt;.</dc:description>
